IPX8 test

A product with an IPX8 classification is designed to withstand long-term or continuous submersion in water at depths beyond 1 metre. This rating is often required in industries where equipment is constantly exposed to water — such as submersible pumps, underground systems, lighting in wet environments, or outdoor enclosures.

Certification for Enhanced Reliability

At Sebert Group, we conduct IPX8 testing in accordance with IEC 60529 — both in our own laboratory and on-site. Our tests simulate real-world conditions, tailored to the specific application of each product.

What Does an IPX8 Test Involve?

IPX8 is part of the Ingress Protection (IP) rating system, which defines how well a product is protected against external elements. In this case, it specifically relates to water resistance during extended immersion.

Unlike IPX7, the exact conditions for IPX8 are not fixed by the IEC 60529 standard. Instead, they are determined in agreement between the manufacturer and the testing body — provided that the test is more severe than IPX7 and reflects realistic, long-term submersion use.

At Sebert Group, IPX8 test parameters are tailored to the product, its intended environment, and specific customer requirements. These can include:

  • Depth: Always greater than 1 metre — e.g., 3 or 5 metres
  • Duration: Adjusted to use case — from longer than 30 minutes up to several hours or days
  • Conditions: Variables such as temperature, pressure, salt water, water movement, and whether the product is powered on during testing

IP Testing According to IEC 60529

IPX8 testing at Sebert Group is carried out in accordance with the IEC 60529 standard. This offers businesses a reliable and accurate way to assess their product’s protection level against water, dust, and other environmental factors.

In industries such as electronics, medical technology, automotive, and energy, a verified IP rating is often required to meet internal quality standards or external regulations.

Need an IPX8 or Other IP Rating?

In addition to IPX8, we also conduct tests for other IP classifications — such as IPX6, which can be combined with IPX8 to ensure a product is protected both from submersion and powerful water jets. We also perform IP6X dust testing, which is often paired with water tests for comprehensive product validation.

We’re happy to advise you on the right approach based on your product, application, and industry requirements.
