IPX2-test
Electronic devices and enclosures are frequently exposed to various forms of moisture. Whether it’s dripping water in industrial environments, household appliances operating in humid rooms, or medical equipment that must withstand condensation — reliable moisture protection is essential. The IPX2 test is a key Ingress Protection (IP) test used to determine whether a product can resist dripping water falling at a 15° angle.

Always compliant with minimum requirements.
At Sebert Group, we perform IPX2 testing in accordance with international standard IEC 60529. This allows manufacturers to validate their products and ensure they meet the minimum requirements for moisture resistance.
What is an IPX2 Test?
The IPX2 test builds upon the IPX1 test, which evaluates resistance to vertically dripping water. In contrast, the IPX2 test tilts the product at a 15° angle to assess whether it can also withstand water falling at a slight incline.
Using a standardized drip test apparatus, water is released from a set of nozzles at a rate of 1 millimetre per minute. The test consists of four sessions of 2.5 minutes each, during which the test object is tilted in a different direction every time. This simulates realistic scenarios where water doesn’t always fall straight down, such as in industrial environments or areas prone to indoor condensation.
Thorough inspection
After the test, the product is carefully inspected to determine whether moisture has entered the enclosure or affected its functionality.
Test Chamber Specifications
Our setup meets the highest industry standards and accommodates a wide range of product types. Key specifications:
-
Usable test chamber dimensions (internal): 500 x 500 x 750 mm
-
Waterflow: 1 mm rainfall per minute
This setup enables highly realistic test conditions and ensures the scenario is tailored to your product.
Why is the IPX2 Test Important?
The IPX2 test offers improved protection over IPX1, as it accounts for situations where water strikes a product at an angle. This is particularly relevant for products that:
Although IPX2 only provides basic moisture protection, it helps manufacturers determine whether their product is suitable for environments where incidental water exposure may occur. For higher levels of protection, classifications such as IPX3 (spraying water) or IPX4 (splashing water) are recommended. In some cases, combination testing may be required — for example, simulating high-pressure jets followed by submersion.

An IPX2 test is particularly relevant for products that:
-
Are used indoors, such as home appliances and electronic components
-
Are installed in vehicles or transport systems, where tilt and vibration affect orientation
-
Are exposed to ambient moisture in production environments, such as condensation or leaks
-
Serve medical or industrial applications, where reliability under varied conditions is crucial
Benefits of an IPX2-Tested Product
A product that passes the IPX2 test demonstrates reliability and can offer a competitive edge in markets where durability and quality assurance are essential. Testing for IPX2 compliance offers several benefits:
In industries such as electronics, automotive, and medical technology, an IPXX rating is often required. By partnering with a specialist like Sebert Group, you gain access to an independent evaluation that meets international standards.
Having your product tested for IPX2 protection offers several advantages:
-
Lower warranty and repair costs, as water-related failures are minimized
-
Improved customer satisfaction, due to more reliable performance under normal usage conditions
-
Compliance with international standards, which is essential for product certification and export
