IK10 impact testing
Are you developing a product that needs to withstand vandalism or mechanical stress? Then it’s essential to test the impact resistance of its enclosure. The IK10 test determines whether your product offers sufficient protection against heavy external impacts.
Sebert Group performs this test in full compliance with the international standard IEC 62262, simulating a 20-joule impact. This is the second-highest classification in the standard and is often required for products used in public or high-risk environments.

What is IK10?
The IK rating system indicates the level of mechanical impact a product can withstand. An IK10 rating means the product can endure an impact of 20 joules—equivalent to a 5 kg weight dropped from a height of 40 cm.
This test applies specifically to enclosures of electrical equipment, as outlined in the IEC 62262 standard, and is frequently used in settings where high durability and impact resistance are critical.
Passing an IK10 test ensures that your enclosure is robust enough for long-term, real-world use.
Vertical hammer & pendulum methods
Sebert Group offers two standardized methods for IK10 testing, tailored to your product’s size and installation orientation.
For larger or non-tiltable objects, we use the pendulum method (also known as the swing test, method Eha). In this setup, the same 5 kg weight is swung into the product to deliver an identical 20-joule impact.
Both methods comply fully with the relevant standards and can be adapted to suit your specific testing needs.
How the test works
Each exposed surface of your product receives five impacts, unless otherwise specified. No more than three impacts may be applied near the same location.
The product is mounted on a rigid surface, as required by the standard. After testing, we carry out a visual inspection, check measurements, and—if applicable—verify functional performance.
This comprehensive process provides clear insight into how your product performs under mechanical stress.

Reliable, standardized testing environment
Our IK10 testing procedures are approved by the technical committee of ElaadNL and are conducted in accordance with international standards.
With years of experience in both mechanical and environmental testing, Sebert Group offers not only precise results but also practical support throughout your entire testing process. You'll receive a clear and detailed report of the results.
